Dear SD 8 Families and Staff,
In a world that is growing smaller every day, cultural competencies are increasing in importance. One great way to have an international experience, right here at home for you and your family, is to welcome an international student into your home.
The Kootenay Lake School District is hoping to welcome international students back into our schools and communities. International students allow for our communities, families and local students to learn about other cultures and to make global friendships.
With COVID, there is uncertainty about our ability to welcome international students for the 21/22 school year, but we are seeing signs to be hopeful and want to be prepared in the event that there is approval from Ministry of Health, IRCC, CBSA and Ministry of Education, for international students to obtain Study Permits. These will be the governing bodies that will decide whether international students will be allowed into BC. They will also determine the health and safety protocols that will be required if they approve international student arrivals. Of course, these approvals will all depend on how COVID continues to progress, and the roll out of vaccines worldwide. We are hopeful that the COVID tides will turn, and because of that, we want to be prepared with approved homestays to welcome our international guests.
Please contact the Kootenay Lake International Program Department if you have any questions, are interested in becoming a Homestay family.
Please feel free to distribute this information to anyone who may be interested in finding out more about becoming a Homestay Family.
