Trafalgar Middle School: Principal's Message, March 2022

Happy March Trafalgar Families!

I hope you have all had a wonderful winter season and are looking forward to springtime and more sunshine!

Before we look ahead, I would like to look back and say a huge THANK YOU again to everyone who donated and supported Trafalgar's Annual Christmas Hampers. We were able to help many families in the community because of your generosity. Our students, Trafalgar families, and local shops came together and brought a touch of kindness and the spirit of giving. One of our grade 9 classes also went to work on setting up beds in the shelter, while another class has been busy keeping the walkway and driveway clear for an elderly neighbour. Two grade 8 classes walked through the neighbourhood and down Baker Street singing Christmas carols to spread a little festive cheer, and a grade 6 class spent time collecting hats and mitts to donate. A grade 7 class ran a toonie-drive to support those people affected by the floods. I'm so proud of the organization, thoughtfulness, and cooperation demonstrated by the Trafalgar students and supported by our Trafalgar community!

To start 2022, we have been learning lots and having some fun. The entire school has been up skiing, classes have been participating in Avalanche Awareness and Preparedness courses, students have completed amazing science fair projects (and are going on to regionals), and, best of all, everyone has been building each other up! Our grade 9 Girls Basketball Team, helmed by Coaches Rozee and Jackson, made it to Provincials in Port Moody and brought home the award for Most Sportsmanship Team! We are so proud of them – way to go, Thunder! The grade 9s of the Student Voice group represented Trafalgar at the Student Symposium focusing on the locally developed and student-led anti-racism toolkit. Our students also recorded the radio spot for Pink Shirt Day for SD8! Students have also been reveling in the latest dump of snow and building snow-people in the fields.

Students in our Entrepreneurship class have been working hard with the design and marketing of our Trafalgar merchandise, now available at the Trafalgar Merch Store https://trafalgar-merch-store.company.site/ ! Orders are being taken until April 1, 2022.

A reminder that Spring Break is just around the corner and the school site will be closed from March 14, 2022 to March 25, 2022.

All the best,

Ms. Amy Strachan

Principal, Trafalgar Middle School

We are here to build each other up!
