Trafalgar Middle School: Principal's Message, December 2021

Happy December, Trafalgar Families!

After fooling us for a week, Winter looks like it’s finally here to stay! Please remember to send your children with the appropriate gear to be outside, and a change of shoes for inside. Snow being tracked inside creates quite the mess, and students need indoor runners for the gym.

I would also like to take a quick moment and thank all the families for their efforts in getting their children to school, keeping them home when they are ill, and supporting their learning.

School Life

Trafalgar students have been a buzz of activity heading into the colder months. Classes are still getting outside to explore nature while looking at migration patterns (animals and humans), natural features, general geography, and the beauty that is nature as an inspiration for writing. There have been field trips to the museum and library to explore the history of our area. We also have classes working on community projects: assisting the elderly with snow removal, building an accessible bike, and creating stories for younger students to learn how to read. We have students who are learning the fine art of archery, while others are learning about self-care and video blogging! Ratio, polynomials, area, and square numbers are the hot topics being explored in math, while creative writing has taken a front seat in literacy.

On the extracurricular side of school life, we have just wrapped up both the cross country running and volleyball seasons. Trafalgar Thunder represented, as always, had a blast and even won some games against some older teams. The students really came together to improve their skills, show great sportsmanship, and have fun. I’d also like to give a shout out to the many staff coaches who made this season possible! Up next… basketball and archery!

TMS PAC

The next PAC meeting will be January 11, 2022 at 5:30pm via Zoom. An email invite will go out closer to the date. There will be no PAC meeting in December.

Student Personal Devices

Thank you so much to the students and families who have really been working on keeping personal devices at home, or put away until break times! This is making a difference in student learning!

Immunizations

The grade 6 immunizations will be on Wednesday December 8, 2021, and the grade 9 immunizations will be on Wednesday December 15, 2021. The forms for these immunizations, and with further information, were sent home and need to be returned before the immunization date.

Grade 7 Laptops are HERE!

The grade 7 students received their school laptops and have been using them for the past month. As this is the pilot year for this District Initiative, we are excited at the learning opportunities presented. Students are navigating the technology under the guidance of their class teachers and are having a blast. Ask your grade 7 child about their learning and how they are using their laptops!
