New Principal for Prince Charles Secondary School – Creston

School District 8 – Kootenay Lake is pleased to announce Brian Hamm will be the new Principal for Prince Charles Secondary School, Creston. “Brian was a keynote at our District Google Conference a couple of years ago, and we are thrilled to have him with us in Creston. His enthusiasm, natural energy, wide range of interests and commitment to improving learning environments for students makes him an ideal fit for our district and, at this time, as principal for PCSS”, says superintendent Perkins.

Brian’s belief in education, rooted in empathy, is foundational to his work and reach within a variety of communities and roles including teacher, coach, department head, athletics director, tech director, consultant, presenter, keynote speaker, Director of Innovation, and Administrator. He began his career at Amiskwaciy Academy in Edmonton, Alberta where he quickly discovered, as a young enthusiastic Educator, that building capacity and curricular connection came only through deep understanding of, and commitment to, community. Now, nearly 15 years later he has had the pleasure of seeing such capacities and connections in a range of diverse communities around the world.

As a teacher and administrator, Brian has called Turkey, South Korea, and Mexico home, and sincerely appreciates each international community relationship of reciprocal learning, growth, and success. As an Educational Consultant and leader in designing community focused educational experiences, he has also expanded his reach to districts across Asia, South America, and North America, bringing him full circle today to the where he started his career. Originally from British Columbia, he is excited to be returning with his family and diving into a region rich with history,

diversity, and vision.

Brian is passionate about leveraging the design process to empower and compel learners and communities towards discovery and purpose, and he has had the privilege of seeing such processes to fruition through educational programs, platforms, teams, and spaces that best reflect community needs, goals, and undiscovered potential. With a B.Ed from the University of Alberta, an M.Ed in International Education Administration from Endicott College, and continual personal and professional growth in an eclectic range of schools and countries, Brian and his wife, Kyla, with their two young children, Lachlan and Charlotte, embrace each opportunity with enthusiasm, curiosity, care, and commitment to learning and communal best. School District 8 – Kootenay Lake welcomes Brian and family to the district and look forward to sharing his many leadership contributions.
