  1. Today Valentine Candy Grams are being sold for $2 at lunch in the cafeteria. Bring your money and buy a gift for a friend or special someone to be delivered to them on Valentine’s Day!!
  2. Imagination meets technology at the 2018 RoboGames. Registration is now open to all youth ages 6 to 18 for this GLOWS event. It is time to get ready for a robot competition that’s fun, free spirited and full of prizes. This year’s event is April 28 at the Selkirk College Castlegar campus. Go to www.selkirk.ca/robogames to get started.
  3. Book Club members and wannabees. We are now reading The Outsiders for our next book. You can pick one up from Mme Machado or from the Trafalgar Library. Our next meeting will be Tuesday, February 27 at lunch. If you still haven’t turned in your copy of The Book Thief, please bring it to Mme Machado or to the Public Library.
  4. New Scholastic order forms are now in the Library. Please return order forms and payment to Ms. King (room 114) by February 14.
  5. Parent-Son Book Club at the Nelson Public Library February 8, 5-630pm for ages 11-16. Come eat pizza and chat with us about great books! We will be chatting about the novel-in-verse Crossover by Kwame Alexander. Books are available at the Circ desk. If you haven’t read the book, still come!
  6. The snowball zone will be open for designated grades only.  Please remember snowballs must stay below the shoulders and there should be absolutely no face washing. It is important to follow these rules if you want to keep the snowball zone. Please help everybody stay safe and have fun in the snow.

Liz Amaral, long time parent educator in Nelson with extensive experience with Gordon Neufeld’s work has offered to lead “Making Sense of Adolescence: a free video course and parent discussion” – 8 sessions – Tuesdays, February 6  to March 13, 7 – 8:30pm in the LVR multipurpose room. To participate parents must contact Liz at lamaral@servicesfyi.ca or 352-3504 to register, or ask questions. (Minimum 10 registrants needed by this Friday, February 2 to run this free program.)
  2. If you and your child are planning to change schools for the 2018-19 school year, you must complete a transfer form. Transfer forms may be downloaded off the SD8 website or picked up at our office. All transfer forms must be received by March 29 at 4:00 pm in order to ensure your child has a seat at their school of choice next year. Students who have submitted transfer forms received after this date will be “WAIT LISTED” until September 7, 2018.
  3. Mother Goose on the Loose: Tuesday, 11am – 12pm, until February 27 at Trafalgar Middle School Library. Ages 0-5. Learn rhymes, songs and stories to share with your little one. Free drop-in!
